The following documents are required for an Orthodox wedding in Greece:
- Copies of the passports (photocopy) of the bride and groom
- Full birth certificate of the bride and groom with the names of their parents written down (with apostille stamp)
- Certificate of non-existence of a previous marriage, officially confirmed by the archbishop of your place of residence
- Clearance certificate for the marriage from the town hall of your residence. This document confirms that you are allowed to get married
- Baptism certificate
- If one of the members is a Christian but not an Orthodox Christian, a notarial deed is required stating that the children will be baptized in Orthodox Christianity
- If someone is divorced, a certified copy of the divorce decree is required by the civil and ecclesiastical authorities.
- Official document issued by a court in the event of the bride or groom's name being changed
- Adoption Certificate (if any)
Important information:
- Apostille stamp: This stamp confirms the legalization and validity of your documents for international use (Hague Convention 1961)
- For an Orthodox ceremony, both parties must be Christians. At least one must be a baptized Orthodox Christian
- All documents must be translated to the Greek embassy or consulate in your country
- All documents must not be older than 3 months before the wedding
- All documents must be emailed to us for review at least 6 weeks prior to the wedding
- When you come for the wedding, you must bring the original documents
